Harper Government Takes Action to Stop Violence Against Women and Girls

March 3, 2022

Dauphin, MB – Today Robert Sopuck, Member of Parliament for Dauphin-Swan River-Marquette, on behalf of The Honourable Dr. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, invited organizations across Canada to propose new projects that will help end violence against women and girls.

“Violence against women and girls takes a terrible toll on individuals, families and communities,” said Sopuck. “That’s why our Government is taking action to end gender-based violence and to improve support for victims.”

The Government of Canada will be supporting projects selected through a new call for proposals by Status of Women Canada entitled Working in Partnership to End Violence against Women and Girls. These projects will help end violence against women and girls by fostering partnerships within and among communities, and creating positive change that prevents violence.

“The Government of Canada is committed to making communities across the country safe and secure for everyone, including women and girls,” Sopuck said. “This new call for proposals will support the development of effective, local strategies to prevent violence against women and girls by encouraging organizations to work in partnership with key stakeholders in the community.”
