Sopuck Disappointed in Earls Restaurant Rejection of Canadian Beef

Ottawa, ON - Today, Robert Sopuck, Member of Parliament for Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa, voiced his disappointment with Earls restaurant chain for implementing a policy that prevents Canadian beef from being served in their restaurants.

“I represent hundreds of beef producers in my riding of Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa,” said Sopuck. “All Canadian beef is produced in a humane and environmentally sustainable manner, and Canadian beef is recognized worldwide for its quality and taste.”

Sopuck’s comments followed the controversial decision by Earls restaurants to stop sourcing their beef from Alberta, and instead only serve beef with the U.S.-based Certified Humane designation. This designation is misleading and unfairly stigmatizes Canadian beef.

“I would encourage Earls to revisit their ill-considered beef policy,” said Sopuck. “Until that occurs I will not be an Earls customer and would encourage others to follow suit.”
