Liberals once again trying to criminalize hunters and farmers

June 18, 2021

Once again the Liberal Party is trying to criminalize Canadian hunters, farmers, sport shooters, and law-abiding gun owners.

Liberal Senator Celine Hervieux-Payette has introduced a bill that will outlaw almost all hunting and sport shooting and criminalize a way of life for millions of Canadians. The Liberal gun control bill would require that the police confiscate firearms; that individuals demonstrate a “need” to possess firearms; and subject firearms owners to “periodic inspections.”

Over the past nine years in office, our Conservative Government has undone the near-decade of disrespect for our way of life under the Liberals. We’ve brought our community to the forefront of decision making through groups like the Hunting and Angling Advisory Panel and the Conservative Hunting and Angling Caucus. We’ve scored major victories through common sense firearms laws such as Bill C-42. Unfortunately, the Liberals and New Democrats want to take those hard-fought victories away from us.

The Liberal Party is the party of the $1 billion wasteful and ineffective long-gun registry, which did nothing to reduce gun crime. Leader Justin Trudeau continues to support this failed policy, pledging: “I voted to keep the firearms registry a few months ago and if we had a vote tomorrow I would vote once again to keep the long-gun registry.” Meanwhile, New Democrat leader Thomas Mulcair wants to “bring in something that allows the police to track every gun in Canada.”

Only our Conservative Government can be trusted to continue to stand up for Canada’s hunters, farmers, and law-abiding firearms owners.

Sincerely,
